S.C.A.R. Group — About Us
We built what we wish we had.
Service Connected Assistance & Resources started the same way most veterans start their claim — at a kitchen table, surrounded by paperwork, with no map and no one to call.
Sec. 01 — Origin
The tool we needed didn’t exist. So we built it.
Authority through clarity, not volume. That’s not a slogan — it’s the standard every page, every form, and every guide gets held to.
Before S.C.A.R. Group was a company, it was a problem. Filing a VA disability claim means learning a system built for caseworkers, not for the person sitting across from it — dense forms, unfamiliar terms, and no clear sense of what comes next.
We went through it. And when it was over, the thing we wished had existed — a straight, honest, step-by-step way to understand the process before signing anything — still didn’t. So we built it ourselves, the way we wished someone had built it for us.
That’s the whole premise of S.C.A.R. Group: build the resource we were missing, then hand it to the next veteran standing where we stood.
Sec. 02 — What We Do
Your claim, explained simply.
Self-service, by design
We built a flat-fee educational platform that streamlines the entire claims process, start to finish. You stay in control of your claim from the first form to the last.
A real person, when you need one
Experienced advisors are available for one-on-one conversations — someone who’s been through it, ready to talk through your specific situation.
Confidence, not confusion
We show you the terrain — eligibility, next steps, what to expect — so you can prepare and submit your own claim with confidence.
S.C.A.R. Group operates as a non-accredited educational resource. We help you understand and prepare your VA disability claim; we do not provide legal or medical advice, and you retain full responsibility for reviewing and submitting your own forms.
In Memoriam
Major Gerald “Girth” Stophel, USAF
Some heroes continue serving long after their final mission.
Major Gerald “Girth” Stophel dedicated 23 years of his life to the United States Air Force, flying the legendary A-10 Thunderbolt II (“Warthog”) and serving as both a fighter pilot and instructor. Throughout his distinguished military career, Jerry earned numerous decorations and campaign medals, but those who knew him remember him for far more than his accomplishments. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and loyal friend whose courage inspired everyone around him.
Jerry loved flying, teaching the next generation of pilots, spending time with his family, and training dogs. His fellow aviators knew him as someone who embodied the unique brotherhood of military aviation — fearless, dedicated, and fiercely loyal.
After his military service, Jerry was diagnosed with a rare cancer linked to his time in uniform. He faced every surgery, treatment, and setback with the same determination that defined his military career. Although cancer ultimately claimed his life on December 17, 2023, it never defeated his spirit. Jerry fought with dignity, hope, and unwavering strength until the very end.
Sadly, Jerry passed away before he was able to see the VA benefits he had earned through his years of honorable service. Those benefits were ultimately awarded to his beloved wife, Lori, ensuring that his sacrifice and service received the recognition they deserved.
Jerry’s legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply. Together, Jerry and Lori built a blended family of six children who remained the center of his world: Samantha (“Sam”), Brandon, Olivia (“Livvy”), Caleb, Patrick, another Samantha (“Sam”), Holly, and Kimberly. He also had the joy of meeting his only granddaughter — a blessing that brought him tremendous happiness. Though he is no longer with them in person, his love, strength, and example continue to guide the family he cherished.
At S.C.A.R. Group, Jerry’s story serves as a constant reminder of why our mission matters. Behind every VA claim is a veteran, a spouse, children, and a family whose lives have been shaped by service and sacrifice. Every case we handle represents someone who answered our nation’s call, and every victory honors that commitment.
We are proud to honor Major Gerald “Girth” Stophel — not only for his extraordinary service to our country, but for the husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend he was to so many.
Forever remembered by his loving wife, Lori, his children Samantha (“Sam”), Brandon, Olivia (“Livvy”), Caleb, Patrick, Samantha (“Sam”), Holly, and Kimberly, his granddaughter, his fellow A-10 pilots, and all whose lives he touched.
